Commanders: Jack Del Rio deletes Twitter account after controversial statements

The defensive coordinator of the Washington Commanders, Jack Del Rio, has deleted his Twitter account. Just one day earlier, he was fined $100,000 by the franchise for bizarre comments.

Munich – This decision could save Jack Del Rio trouble in the future. After being fined 100,000 dollars by his employer only on Friday, the defensive coordinator of the Washington Commanders now deleted his account on Twitter.

There were initially no statements from the club or Del Rio himself. The penalty was triggered by Del Rio’s description of the storming of the Capitol in January 2021 as a “minor altercation” on the social media platform.

These statements led to a shitstorm on the Commanders’ social media accounts.

Commanders distance themselves from Del Rio’s statements

The Washington NFL team, through head coach Ron Rivera and others, distanced themselves from the 59-year-old’s statements. “As we learned in the hearings yesterday, what happened at the Capitol on January 6, 2021 was an act of domestic terrorism,” Rivera said.

And continued, “A group of fellow citizens tried to overturn the results of a free and fair election. As a result, people lost their lives and the Capitol was damaged.”

On Tuesday, Del Rio will explain himself to the team, according to information from “ESPN”. The same report indicates that there is no problem within the team with the experienced coach, however.

Del Rio continues to be part of the Commanders – backing in the team

Nothing is known at this time about further consequences on the part of the Commanders for Del Rio, who had already apologised publicly. The amount of the fine will be donated to the United States Capitol Police Memorial Fund.

For defensive tackle Jonathan Allen, the statements do not seem to be an issue either. He told “NBC Sports Washington”, “I don’t care about his opinion. As long as he shows up every day and works hard. That’s what I want from my defensive coordinator.”

Defensive end Chase Young even reportedly said Del Rio was his “man,” according to “ESPN. “
