Colin Kaepernick on Seahawks rumours and NFL return: “Still hopeful”

Colin Kaepernick continues to hope for a comeback in the NFL. After numerous private workouts with active wide receivers, an official workout with the Seattle Seahawks is in the offing.

Munich/Seattle – Does Colin Kaepernick have a future in the NFL after all? The impressions of the past few days have the rumour mill bubbling at full speed.

The Seattle Times reports that Colin Kaepernick held another private workout on Wednesday, throwing passes to a number of players, including Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Aaron Fuller.

Days earlier, the former San Francisco 49ers signal caller worked out with Seahawks star Tyler Lockett, among others. After the past sessions, reports increased that Kaepernick might soon be allowed to officially audition for the Seahawks.

Colin Kaepernick: “Hopeful” for NFL comeback

The player himself confirmed speculation to that effect, stressing that he has already spoken with head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider about working out together and hopes a joint practice session will come to fruition as well.

“Not yet,” the 34-year-old replied when asked if the Seahawks have officially announced they will work out with him. “I’m still waiting for that chance. I’m still hopeful. I’m still hopeful that the door is open and I’ll get a chance to walk through it.”

The brewing haggling over an NFL return is not the first time “Kaep” has been linked to the Seahawks. In 2017, the quarterback had a meeting with the team but remained unsigned.

Coach Carroll fuelled the speculation of a Seahawks commitment by stating in response to a reporter’s question that Kaepernick deserves another chance in the NFL. “ESPN” insider Adam Schefter appropriately quoted a source as saying the playmaker is “in the best shape of his life” and “ready to play.”

Is everything moving really fast now?

Seattle Seahawks: question marks after Wilson trade

A new era is dawning for the Seahawks after the blockbuster trade of franchise quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos. In return came Drew Lock, a young playmaker who, as things stand, will move into the starter’s role. Whether the 25-year-old can be the quarterback of the future in Seattle remains to be seen.

So an experienced player on the roster could make sense for all parties. Even though Kaepernick hasn’t played in an NFL game since the 2016 season, when he threw 16 touchdowns and just four interceptions in 12 games for the 49ers.

He led San Francisco to the Super Bowl in the 2012 season and the NFC Championship Game in the 2013 season, but was not re-signed after opting out of his contract in 2017.
