Carolina Panthers fire head coach Reich – successor has been named

The Carolina Panthers have fired their head coach. Frank Reich will be replaced by one of his coordinators

After the tenth defeat in the eleventh game of the season, the Carolina Panthers have seen enough. The Charlotte-based franchise has announced that Head Coach Frank Reich has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.

The 61-year-old had only taken over the post before the season.

Former Special Teams Coordinator Chris Tabor will take over as interim Head Coach. Playcalling is in the hands of Offensive Coordinator Thomas Brown, who will be supported by Senior Assistant Jim Caldwell as Special Advisor.

Owner David Tepper, who has already fired three head coaches since taking over in 2018, said in a statement: “I met with Coach Reich this morning and informed him that he is no longer the head coach of the Carolina Panthers.”

He thanked him for his service and wished Reich all the best for the future. According to the team’s website, the club’s leadership criticizes the lack of development in the offense, which had seen so much work during the offseason.

With first overall pick Bryce Young, hopes were high that Reich could quickly lead the team to success. In the end, it came down to one: a 15-13 win over the Houston Texans.

Frank Reich with four defeats in a row

Before that, there were six defeats, followed by another four, most recently 10:17 at the Tennessee Titans, who also stumbled. With five games remaining, their chances of making the play-offs are now minimal. They continue next Sunday at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – without Reich on the sidelines.

It was Reich’s second stint as head coach in the NFL. From 2018 to November 7, 2022, the former quarterback of the Buffalo Bills, Panthers, New York Jets and Detroit Lions was in charge of the Indianapolis Colts. He reached the playoffs twice, but only won one postseason game
