Atlanta Falcons extend defensive tackle Grady Jarrett

The Atlanta Falcons are moving forward with their future plans. The team from Georgia has signed defensive tackle Grady Jarrett to a new multi-year contract.

Munich/Atlanta – A few days after his 29th birthday last Thursday, Grady Jarrett has reason to celebrate once again.

The defensive lineman signed a new three-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons.

WSB-TV Atlanta first reported the deal, which has since been confirmed by the Falcons.

Jarrett responded on Twitter with a short but succinct “Amen”.

According to information from “ESPN”, the defensive tackle could collect 51 million dollars over the next three years including bonus payments. 34.5 million of that is guaranteed, according to the report.

Falcons are rebuilding

Following the trades of wide receiver Julio Jones and quarterback Matt Ryan, the Falcons are in the midst of rebuild mode. Jarrett is expected to play an important role in that process – as is left tackle Jake Matthews, who previously signed a long-term contract extension.

Jarrett wasn’t drafted by the Falcons until the fifth round of the draft in 2015, but quickly developed into a top performer.

He sacked Tom Brady three times in the bitter Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots in February 2017, but couldn’t prevent the Pats’ 34-28 comeback win either.

He appeared in the Pro Bowl in both 2019 and 2020. He has 359 total tackles and 26.5 sacks in 110 games so far in his career.
