XFL in the NFL? New “kickoff model” under review

In the search for measures to increase player safety in the NFL, the “kickoff model” from the XFL could be adopted.

Will there be elements of the XFL in the NFL in the new season?

As the “Washington Post” reports, the NFL is analyzing the “kickoff model” of the XFL. And it is apparently considering revising its own model in the direction of an XFL variant.

The background to the brainstorming is the health of the players, which is to be improved as a result.

In the XFL model, the kicker lines up at his own 30-yard line, while the other ten members of the kickoff team line up at the opponent’s 35-yard line – five yards away from the blockers of the return team.

Before the ball is touched, the kicker and a returner are the only players allowed to move.

This is what it looks like in practice.

The XFL introduced this rule when it relaunched in 2020 and itself adopted it from the Fall Experimental Football League, which ran for two seasons in 2014 and 2015
