Trey Lance is finally back in throwing practice after his serious injury. Helping him out as a “training partner” is Patrick Mahomes.
Trey Lance was supposed to be the great hope of the San Francisco 49ers last season. Instead, after suffering a serious injury early in the season, underdog Brock Purdy played his way into the spotlight and has made the starting quarterback job a two-man battle once again.
Lance now returned to throwing practice. “Preston Smith Photography” recorded video of the quarterback getting the ball in his hands again – and he’s not alone.

At his side: reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes.
Why the two quarterbacks practiced their throwing at the same facility is unknown. But Lance should be able to learn a thing or two from his colleague.
Ahead of the 2023 season, the former No. 3 pick is no longer the starter for sure in San Francisco and will have to compete with Purdy for the role. Newcomer Sam Darnold, on the other hand, will almost certainly only be a backup.
Otherwise, Purdy is also recovering from an injury. There is no clear answer to the 49ers quarterback question this summer either.
