Tom Brady and Bill Belichick were key figures in the 20-year era with the New England Patriots. Now Brady reveals what the relationship was and is like with his ex-coach

The relationship between Tom Brady and Bill Belichick has always been the subject of wild speculation. How well did the quarterback and coaching legend get along with each other at the New England Patriots?

Was it just a marriage of convenience? How complicated was it really?

Or was it simply a professional relationship between superstar and top coach built on a great mutual trust?

According to Brady, it was mostly the latter.

Brady and Belichick: Both trusted each other

He was “very lucky” to be able to play for Belichick, Brady admitted to “ESPN”. Brady was selected 199th overall in round six by the Patriots in the 2000 draft and the rest is a success story, garnished with six Super Bowl wins together.

“He had a lot of confidence in what I was doing out there on the field, and that went both ways,” Brady said. According to Brady, the success was also due to the fact that many people at the Patriots followed the “Do Your Job” mantra. “That’s what I did as a quarterback and a leader,” Brady said, adding that he “learned so much from him.”

Speaking to “ESPN”, Brady also revealed that Belichick was “one of the first guys to text me after we won the Super Bowl in Tampa. “

Brady and Belichick: Mutual respect

Brady said he and Belichick “have a lot of mutual respect. Were there times when we weren’t always on the same page? Very rarely, actually. I still see our relationship as a positive one and always will,” he said.
