The traditional Thanksgiving games in the NFL are coming up. On this occasion, the NFL honours one of its greatest and one who loved Thanksgiving: Hall of Famer John Madden.
Munich/Dallas – In 2021, the NFL lost one of the greatest personalities the league has ever had in John Madden.
Whether as a player, head coach or commentator, Madden was beloved by all franchises and fans.
Madden’s favourite holiday? Thanksgiving. “I’ve spent every Thanksgiving since 1981 commentating a game. I just love that day,” the former Raiders coach once said.
“Madden Player of the Game” and $10,000 to foundations
For the first Thanksgiving without Madden, who died in December 2021, the NFL, in cooperation with the three broadcast networks, will award a “Madden Player of the Game” to each in his honor.
The player will be named at each of the games Detroit Lions – Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys – New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings – New England Patriots.
The player will receive $10,000 to donate to a charity of his choice.
Tributes will also be paid to the late head coach at Sunday’s games.
