Sean Payton wants to return to the NFL in 2023

Sean Payton wants to return to the NFL. Not this year, though. The former head coach of the New Orleans Saints is, however, pretty sure that he will be back in a head coaching job in the NFL for the 2023 season.

Munich – At the end of January 2022, Sean Payton announced his retirement as head coach of the New Orleans Saints after holding the post since 2006.

Last offseason, there was repeated speculation that the 58-year-old could return to a coaching position, even though Payton announced that he wanted to take a year off first.

A return for the season after next is now looking increasingly likely, at least since Payton spoke about his future in an interview with Jarrett Bell of USA Today. “Do I think I’ll ultimately get back in? Sure,” Payton said, “but it’s impossible to predict which club it might be.”

Payton went on to say, “There are usually about six vacancies every year. Whether it’s a fit somewhere ultimately depends on a number of factors. “

Sean Payton: Dallas, Miami or LA as next job?

According to a recent report by Barry Jackson in the Miami Herald, the following factors are said to be most important to the 2009 Super Bowl champion: Warm weather, a competitive squad and full control of personnel. Therefore, among others, the Dallas Cowboys, the Miami Dolphins and the Los Angeles Chargers would be on the coach’s shortlist.

Payton is not yet seriously considering a return, however, as he pretends: “We’ll deal with it when the time comes. “
