Ryan Tannehill with mental health issues: In a “dark place” after playoff exit

Ryan Tannehill was defeated by the Cincinnati Bengals in the playoffs with the Tennessee Titans. The quarterback has had to cope with the loss for a long time, he has to work through the psychological problems that have arisen with professional help.

Munich – An exit in the playoffs, shortly before the Super Bowl, is tough. Every player deals with the sporting disappointment differently. Ryan Tannehill – as he has now revealed – was particularly deeply affected by the loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the Divisional Round.

So deeply, in fact, that the Tennessee Titans quarterback needed professional help. The Titans had lost the game to the eventual Super Bowl finalists 16-19, with Tannehill throwing for 220 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.

Ryan Tannehill: “It’s a deep scar “

Especially bitter: After his last turnover, the Bengals came up with the final play for the decisive field goal.

“It’s a deep scar,” said Tannehill, who is mostly at fault for his own performance, going over and over the game on many sleepless nights.

“You prepare so long and so hard to get into that position, to chase your dreams, and then to go out there and play below the standard I have for myself, that was rubbish,” he said.

Tannehill revealed that he has been seeking psychological therapy on and off for some time, but this offseason was different. That’s when he found himself in a “dark place” mentally, needing serious help to get out of it.

“I kind of worked through it,” Tannehill said. “The therapy, talking to people. Time. All of that. It’s been tough. It’s a scar that stays. “

Tannehill: Learn from it and move on

It took a lot of work to get through it, he said. “It wasn’t just one day. It wasn’t one week. It was weeks and weeks and weeks. A lot of meetings. Now I can look back on it and recognise it for what it was, learn from it and move on. “
