Rivera: Guice dismissal “in the best interest” of the team

The dismissal of Running Back Derrius Guice was without alternative for coach Ron Rivera. The Washington football team will benefit from this, he believes.

Ron Rivera’s taking a stand. Under the new coach, the Washington football team has a new pace, a new tone.

Running back Derrius Guice was feeling the effects of that. After he was arrested and charged with domestic abuse, the franchise threw him out. Less than two hours after the team found out about it. Apparently, Rivera’s not a man to be trifled with.

He explained to the team in a personal conversation that it is “in the best interest of our organization” to continue without Guice. For Rivera there were no two opinions, no alternative. Full responsibility
He said the team would benefit if it was the right decision, but on the other hand it would fall back on him if it wasn’t. But he took “full responsibility to make sure we try to do things right”.

Despite the crackdown, Rivera admits that it was not easy. “It’s always a very difficult decision to lay off a talented young player,” Rivera said. “But this kind of situation, we take these allegations very, very seriously.”

Guice’s career is therefore already at a turning point, even before his third season. The 2018 second-round pick was not signed off the waivers list, which means he is now officially a Free Agent.

He had already declared through his lawyer that he would defend himself against the accusations.
