Odell Beckham Jr. reportedly wants to join Seattle Seahawks

After leaving the Cleveland Browns, star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. reportedly wants to join the Seattle Seahawks. But that could be a problem via the waiver list.

Munich – Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.’s time with the Cleveland Browns is over. Does the superstar’s path now lead to the Seattle Seahawks around the currently still injured star quarterback Russell Wilson? According to Mike Florio Beckham of “Pro Football Talk”, the Seahawks are Beckham’s declared goal. According to the report, Beckham is not interested in joining a team via the waiver list, but rather as a free agent.

Background: The Browns are expected to place Beckham on the waiver list this Monday. There, however, teams with a worse winning percentage have priority in contract negotiations should several teams be interested in a player on the waiver.

The Seahawks are currently only ninth on the waiver-waiver list with their 3-5 win record. If teams ranked higher were also interested in OBJ, they would have priority in negotiations. If no one is interested in Beckham after 24 hours on the waiver list, he becomes a free agent, free to negotiate with any team.

Saints and 49ers reportedly also interested

According to Florio Beckham, the New Orleans Saints and San Francisco 49ers are reportedly among those interested in Beckham Jr. in addition to the Seahawks.

The 29-year-old himself wants to join a team with playoff aspirations, according to “ESPN”. So he’s drawn to a success-oriented franchise because that’s where he’s most likely to be productive.

Browns have already restructured contract

The wide receiver most recently fell out of favour with the Browns after his father posted a video montage on social media showing Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield either overlooking the free-flowing OBJ or missing him with pass attempts.

Subsequently, Beckham Jr. was cut from the team by head coach Kevin Stefanski. Back on Saturday, the Cleveland Browns terminated Beckham Jr.’s contract. In doing so, the remainder of his contract was voided and his salary for the 2021 season will have to be covered by a potential new team.
