NFL: Unemployed quarterback Carson Wentz gets help from ex-coach Jon Gruden

Since his dismissal from the Washington Commanders, Carson Wentz has been quiet. Now, in his fight for a new job in the NFL, the quarterback is getting help from a questionable ex-coach

When the US media last talked about Carson Wentz, “ESPN” said the quarterback had “received interest” from NFL teams and will “maybe wait longer into the offseason” to see how the quarterback market develops.

Countless weeks have passed since then, but nothing has happened. Now, however, “ESPN” insider Adam Schefter reports Wentz has “spent time in Tampa coaching throws and studying film” with former NFL head coach Jon Gruden.

He added: “Wentz wants and intends to play this season and is waiting for the right situation. “

Wentz trains with Gruden

Whether and to what extent Gruden, of all people, can help the playmaker remains to be seen. Since Gruden announced his resignation from his post as Raiders coach due to a number of misdemeanours, he is generally regarded as persona non grata in NFL circles.

In the Carson Wentz case, too, interest seems to be rather limited. Since his release around three months ago, the second-round draft pick from 2016 has not been linked to any team, nor have there been any reports of offers or at least interest from a franchise.

The 30-year-old has been released by the Eagles, Colts and Commanders in his career and is unlikely to get a starting job. Whether he would really be willing to be a backup as well remains to be seen.
