The league is turning the tables on the “NFL Sunday Ticket” compensation claim following the latest decision

The dispute over the claim for damages by subscribers to the “NFL Sunday Ticket” is entering the next round. After the plaintiffs were initially awarded 4.7 billion dollars at the end of June, a US district judge recently overturned the decision in favor of the NFL.

According to “FrontOfficeSports.com”, the NFL has now turned the tables. Accordingly, the league has officially applied for reimbursement of the legal costs from the plaintiffs in the antitrust proceedings. The amount in question is 389,715.61 US dollars.

However, this does not relate to legal fees, but to expenses incurred by the NFL in the course of the trial. These include compensation for witness statements, travel expenses, etc.

In the US civil law system, each side bears its own legal fees, with a few exceptions. In most cases, the losing party can be required to pay the legal costs of the winning party. The decision to do so is at the discretion of the judge.

The lawsuit by the “NFL Sunday Ticket” subscribers was filed back in 2015. They accuse the NFL, the NFL teams and the TV partners of colluding and violating antitrust law.

The league has been offering the “NFL Sunday Ticket” package since 1994 to enable fans outside the actual market to watch games that are otherwise only broadcast on local television. Subscribers to the ticket include sports bars and restaurants. They hope that the package will boost their business by broadcasting matches of non-home teams.
