Sebastian Vollmer was a guest on the webshow and talked about the upcoming Wild Card Round and every single game, among other things. An excerpt of some statements.
Munich – The Wild Card Round is coming up and who better to talk to about the NFL playoffs than two-time Super Bowl champion Sebastian Vollmer.
The former New England Patriots O-lineman gives his expertise on all the matchups, explains the special tension in the postseason and discusses Jakob Johnson’s special role.
Some statements in detail:
Sebastian Vollmer on …
.. the finale between the Raiders, Chargers and Steelers:“The Raiders were already in the playoffs, but wanted to kick the field goal to kick out their division rival. I’m a fan of letting the players play in those moments.”
.. the Cincinnati Bengals: “They haven’t won a game in the playoffs in 30 years and they’re hitting their peak at the right time. I like the swagger of Joe Burrow, they’re one of the most interesting teams. I still want to see them win before I crown them Super Bowl champions.”
… the Las Vegas Raiders: “What they had to overcome – with the firing of the coach, the Ruggs accident, injuries – was impressive. If there was one game I would bet on an upset, it would be here on the Raiders.”
“It can really bond the team when you overcome a lot of setbacks and say to yourself, “Us against the World” – we against the rest of the world.””
.. the Bills game against the Patriots: “The Buffalo Bills have been the second best team to me for years behind the New England Patriots, Brady and Belichick. But they found a quarterback in Josh Allen that will carry them for years and may be one of the best teams in the AFC.”
… The special situation in the playoffs: “I’ve never not been to the playoffs, so I don’t know any different. It’s very special, though. There are three speeds in a season. The preseason is one thing. Then the regular season and then the playoffs. You know if I lose, the moving van is going to be out the door tomorrow.”
“I talked to Jakob about it, he knows that too. Everything is done for this win, more massage, conditioning, you watch more film. It’s a unique experience and you know you might never make the playoffs again and you have to take your chances.”
.. Jakob Johnson:“He gives the football team that certain something. When he’s on the field, he clears the way. You have to have a certain mentality there. He does everything right there, I’m a big fan.”
.. the Eagles vs. the Bucs: “I find it hard to imagine the Eagles winning. The Bucs are led by Brady, I don’t see much chance there. Philadelphia has already proven they can start a run in the playoffs, but I can’t believe that currently.”
.. Tom Brady: “What he’s still playing at his age is unique. As with Aaron Rodgers, we should enjoy seeing these top quarterbacks play for a long time to come and be glad to be part of this football era.”
… Trevon Diggs on the Dallas Cowboys: “If you get the offense off the field and end the drive with the interception, it gets you more than if you allow less yards. I wouldn’t tell him as a coach. to change his style of play to the playoffs because he’s allowing a lot of yards along with his interceptions. The quarterback thinks twice about throwing the ball his way. That’s an advantage in itself.”
.. the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs: “Ben Roethlisberger is a veteran with the Steelers, so I would imagine he’ll want to go all out for what will probably be his last game. Although I don’t think the Steelers have a chance.
“The Chiefs are a very experienced and successful team, they won’t take this lightly. They’ll put in a commanding performance and can only lose the game through interceptions, fumbles and more turnovers.
.. the divisional duel between the Rams and Cardinals:“The question for me with the Rams is which Matthew Stafford we get to see. He has good stats, but he also has 17 interceptions. The L.A. Rams are “all in,” have spent a lot of money on stars and have some on the roster. If they lost in the first round, the Los Angeles press would be all over them.
“Quarterbacks who are in the playoffs for the first time usually struggle – Kyler Murray is one of them. Defensive end Chandler Jones is a beast for that. If the Cardinals can keep the game so it’s not on Kyler Murray’s shoulders, the Cardinals have a better chance. “
