NFL salary cap could rise to over 240 million dollars

The 32 teams in the NFL will probably be allowed to spend significantly more on their players’ salaries next season. The salary cap will apparently be raised significantly.

The salary cap in the NFL will apparently be raised significantly for the 2024 season. As the two NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero report, the salary cap could rise to a sum in excess of 240 million dollars.

Official announcements from the league have not yet been made and, according to the report, will probably not follow until the new calendar year. There will also be no forecast at the upcoming winter meeting of the teams on Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to sources, however, the after-effects of the coronavirus pandemic have now finally been overcome, which could result in further, in some cases significant, salary cap increases in the coming years.

The salary cap had already risen significantly in the past two years – despite the pandemic. While the limit was still at 208.2 million dollars in the 2022 season, teams are already allowed to spend 224.8 million dollars in the current season.

The salary cap is one of the NFL’s central keys to keeping the league balanced. It prevents a team with greater financial resources from being able to sign the majority of top stars.
