NFL commissioner Roger Goodell faces his next contract extension. According to the report, the 63-year-old could remain with the league for several more years.
Munich – Roger Goodell could extend his contract as NFL commissioner once again.
This is reported by the “Sports Business Journal”. This comes as quite a surprise as it was said after his last extension that it would be the last contract of the now 63-year-old. His current contract runs until 2024.
A new contract would presumably extend Goodell’s tenure by another two to four years. An unnamed NFL team owner stated, “He (Goodell; ed.) is at the peak of his career. Why would he stop now?”
It would be the fourth contract extension since he started.
Roger Goodell: at the helm of the NFL since 2006
Goodell took over the post in 2006 from Paul Tagliabue, who was NFL commissioner for 17 years. By the end of his current contract, Goodell would already surpass that mark.
For several weeks, the 63-year-old and the league have been under criticism. Coach Brian Flores accused the league of not giving him a chance at a new job because of the colour of his skin after he was fired by the Miami Dolphins.
