NFL: punter Matt Araiza likely exonerated of rape charge

Although Matt Araiza was accused of participating in the gang rape of a 17-year-old, prosecutors did not file charges. A report now explains why.

Next step on the road to a comeback for Matt Araiza?

A report from “Yahoo Sports” explains why no criminal charges have been filed against the punter for his alleged involvement in the gang rape of a 17-year-old.

The portal refers to a more than 200-page document based on the interview of the alleged victim by a deputy district attorney.

It states on the part of authorities that Araiza left the college party after which the crime allegedly occurred more than an hour before the alleged crime was committed.

Matt Araiza responds with statement

The 2022 Buffalo Bills sixth-round pick responded to the disclosures in a statement, saying, “I can only hope that people will now judge me based on the facts and not the false allegations in the civil suit and the press.”

It had already been revealed last December that there would be no criminal case against the now 22-year-old, as law enforcement could only bring charges if there was no reasonable doubt about a conviction.

Despite the authorities’ exoneration, however, a civil case is still ongoing in which the punter is one of the defendants.

Comeback in the NFL?

Araiza was one of three San Diego State University football players accused by the alleged victim.

After the allegations came to light, the 22-year-old was released by the Bills at the end of August last year just a few months after being drafted.

Currently, the punter is out of contract and available to all teams for a signing.
