The Eagles and Packers will play the first NFL game in Brazil in September. The teams are already facing a jersey problem
The first NFL game on Brazilian soil will take place in Sao Paolo on September 6. The Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers will then face each other.
The NFL is obviously already facing a number of problems. Especially when it comes to the jersey colors of the two teams.
As Packers star Josh Jacobs confirmed on the “Green Light” podcast, the NFL apparently informed the two franchises that the players are not allowed to wear the color green: “They told us that you can’t wear green in this part of Brazil. […] Apparently it has something to do with the gangs there,” Jacobs claimed.
According to several media reports, however, the reason for the ban is a different one: the trigger is apparently the venue of the duel, the stadium of the Brazilian soccer club SC Corinthians.
As previously reported by the “Daily Mail”, the traditional Brazilian club has imposed a ban on the use of the color green in its own stadium. For one simple reason: their big city rivals and arch-enemies Palmeiras Sao Paulo wear exactly the same color.
The Eagles, as the nominal home team, could also be banned from wearing their traditional green jerseys.
It is not yet clear which jerseys Philly will wear in September. Since the Eagles’ and Green Bay Packers’ alternate jerseys are both white, another jersey color will have to be found for the game if there is any doubt.
But the NFL has not only issued warnings about the jersey colors, Jacobs continued: “They told us it’s one of those places where we won’t even be allowed to leave the hotel.”
Officially, however, the NFL has not yet made any statements about the alleged safety concerns.
