Rookie quarterback Mac Jones of the New England Patriots has patented the trademark “MJ10”. This will allow him to sell branded merchandise in the future. One expert is anything but thrilled.
Munich – Mac Jones, quarterback of the New England Patriots and current favourite for the Rookie of the Year Award, has applied for a patent for the brand name “MJ10”. This was reported by Nicole Yang of the Boston Globe.
The patent allows the 23-year-old to use the initials of his name in combination with his jersey number as a brand name for merchandise. Piquant: The name “MJ10” is strongly reminiscent of “TB12”, the lifestyle brand launched by Tom Brady. This puts Skip Bayless, sports expert and part of the American sports show “Undisputed”, in a bad mood: “The audacity Mac Jones has, in the middle of his rookie season, blows my mind. He’s not the quiet, down-to-earth kid from Alabama anymore. “
Jones is not the first Patriots player this season to file a merchandise patent. Defensive end Matt Judon protected his cheering pose after a sack. He also plans to sell jumpers, T-shirts and the like with his silhouette in the future.
