Shock for John Elway: His former agent and current business partner Jeff Sperbeck has died in a tragic accident. Elway himself was also involved in the accident.
Former star quarterback John Elway is mourning the loss of his longtime confidant Jeff Sperbeck. The 62-year-old died on Wednesday as a result of an accident involving a golf cart that occurred last Saturday.
According to reports from TMZ, among others, Elway and Sperbeck were traveling together in the vehicle after a party when Sperbeck fell out of the back of the golf cart and hit his head on the asphalt. He suffered severe trauma. According to reports, Elway was behind the wheel of the vehicle.
Elway immediately called emergency services, and Sperbeck was taken directly to a hospital after paramedics arrived. However, Sperbeck’s chances were slim from the outset, and he had to be kept alive by machines. Doctors were already preparing to release his organs for transplantation.
Although Elway was apparently driving the golf cart himself, there are no indications that he was at fault in the accident, according to the report. The former Denver Broncos quarterback and Sperbeck had been at a music festival with their wives.
Sperbeck and Elway had known each other for many years, with Sperbeck becoming Elway’s agent in the NFL back in 1990. Even after the two-time Super Bowl winner retired, the two remained close friends and had been running a winery together since 2013.
