NFL: Joe Burrow gets advice from legend Peyton Manning

Quarterback legend Peyton Manning gave potential number-one pick Joe Burrow advice for the NFL and warned him not to take any setbacks.

Quarterback Joe Burrow is the alleged number one pick in this year’s NFL draft.

But now, an NFL legend is warning the Heisman Trophy winner that he can’t start in the NFL. “He called me and asked me about some things I did as a rookie that he could do,” said ex-quarterback Peyton Manning on “ESPN.

Manning added, “I told him, ‘If you’re the first pick in the NFL draft, you’re coming to a team that deserves the first pick. There’s gonna be some problems there. There’s a reason the Bengals get to pick first this year.'”

Last year, the Cincinnati Bengals finished 2-14, while Burrow remained unbeaten with LSU in 15 games and was named best player of the season.

Manning recalled that his 1998 rookie season was also difficult. At the Indianapolis Colts he threw 28 interceptions and lost more games in one year than at the University of Tennessee, where he had played for four years. But over the years, he became one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history.

“That’s what I want to say to Joe and all the other rookie quarterbacks: ‘Your rookie year won’t be the same as your last season in college. But if you learn how fast the defense is, how fast you have to get rid of the ball and how defenses work, you’ll be a better player. Next year or two years later, you’re gonna be a better player.”
