NFL: German games in 2024 – premiere in Madrid?

The NFL will continue to play games in Germany in the future. According to a report in “Bild”, the league is planning to hold two games again in 2024.

In the new season, two NFL games will be played in Germany.

On 5 November, the Kansas City Chiefs will play the Miami Dolphins in Frankfurt, and one week later the New England Patriots will meet the Indianapolis Colts.

Concrete plans are now said to be in place for 2024 – and Germany will apparently once again be awarded the contract for two NFL games. This is reported by the newspaper “Bild”. Where exactly the second game could take place is currently unknown.

The agreement with the NFL for one German game per year runs until 2026. Munich and Frankfurt will alternate as hosts of the games. In the 2024 season, therefore, another game will take place in Munich’s Allianz Arena.

An NFL game is also to be played in Madrid next year. NFL insider Dov Kleiman reports that the game in the Spanish capital is part of the league’s international expansion strategy.

“Two sources with knowledge of the plans claim the 2024 game in Madrid is as good as fixed,” the tweet reads.

Second NFL game in 2023 due to Mexico rebuild

The fact that there will be a second NFL game in Germany as early as this year is connected to renovation work in the course of preparations for the 2026 World Cup.

Due to renovation work, the Azteca Stadium in Mexico is not available for the annual “Mexico Game”, and the NFL decided without further ado to move the game to Germany;

The reason for this may also be the very large crowds so far. Last year’s Munich Game recorded three million requests, and this year’s games again broke the million mark.

Thanks to the football enthusiasm in Germany, the NFL is now apparently prepared to host two games in 2024.
