Two NFL games could be played on German soil in the 2023 season, a league official confirmed. The reason for this is the renovation of a stadium for the 2026 World Cup.
Munich – The NFL is planning to host two games in Germany during the 2023 season, according to reports from “The Athletic” and “Sports Illustrated”, among others.
The reason for this is the renovation of the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City for the 2026 World Cup, in which the arena is to function as a venue and is therefore not available for an NFL game next season.Whether the game would be played in Munich, Frankfurt or at another location is not yet known.
Munich Game 2022 was a complete success
Peter O’Reilly, the NFL’s vice president of events and team affairs, confirmed the deliberations to reporters on Wednesday after rumours began swirling around the subject in recent weeks.
After the Munich Game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Seattle Seahawks, which caused a great deal of excitement in Germany, two matches could be played in Germany in 2023.
NFL executive Peter O’Reilly says the NFL will not play a game in Mexico next year because the stadium will undergo renovations for the World Cup. Thus, likely two games in Germany instead.
