Tragic news from the United States. Former Rams player Otis Anderson Jr. is shot dead in his parents’ home. His father, who also targeted his wife, who was present, is charged with murder.

Munich – Shocking news from the United States. Former Rams player Otis Anderson Jr. was shot and killed at his parents’ home in Jacksonville, Florida on Monday night.

According to a report released by the Jacksonville Sherriff’s Office, Otis Anderson, the father of the man killed, was arrested. His wife had testified that father and son got into an argument over a dog bite, in which she was also involved – eventually the argument escalated.

Although father and son allegedly broke away from each other, the father returned once more – apparently armed.

When the police arrived, they found the athlete shot, who was pronounced dead in hospital a short time later. Mother Denise Anderson was also hit, but fortunately the wounds were not life-threatening.

Anderson Sr. was charged with the murder of his son and attempted murder of his wife. He is now in jail, out on bail.

Otis Anderson Jr. played for the UCF Knights from 2017 to 2020. The running back recorded 2,182 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns, while also catching 91 passes for 1,025 yards and nine touchdowns.

He was not selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, but subsequently signed as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Rams. There he completed training camp, the preseason and began the regular season as a member of the practice squad before being released.

The franchise already expressed its dismay on social media over the tragic death of its former player. It said he had been a “promising young man” whose future was “bright”.

The University of Central Florida also expressed its condolences, stressing that the running back had been extremely popular with the team.

His former coach Josh Heupel wrote: “Saddened and stunned by the passing of Otis Anderson Jr. He was tough and brave, funny and full of laughter and had such a positive impact on our university, our community and our locker room. He was an incredible teammate. My condolences go out to the entire UCF family.”

Anderson Jr. lived to be only 23 years old.
