The chances of an NFL comeback of Colin Kaepernick are obviously better than in the past years. NFL reporter Mike Garafolo reports on the clubs’ approach to personnel. Apparently nothing is being rushed.
Colin Kaepernick employs the NFL and the teams like not for a long time. This is of course connected to the protests against social injustice in the USA, including the strengthening of the “Black Lives Matter” movement. But of course also with his skills as a quarterback who would enhance many a franchise.
Because of his anthem protest, it seemed frowned upon in the league for years to even deal with the 32-year-old. That has now changed. Mike Garafolo confirms information from his colleague Michael Silver.
“Conversations with friends and colleagues”
“There are conversations with friends and colleagues while the teams gather information,” the NFL reporter revealed in a circuit: “The teams are pulling in circles and slowly approaching, I’m thinking much more intensely than in previous years.”
He goes on to explain why no one has yet talked to “Kap” himself or his most important employee: “To explain it from the perspective of the teams: They are still doing their homework, their research. Only when they reach the point where they are confident they can negotiate a contract will they seek direct contact with his agent.”
“More positive signs of Kaepernick’s return”
Obviously, this can happen in the near future, especially since the preparation will be more intensive in the coming weeks and the professionals will be able to meet for a joint training session despite the corona crisis. So Garafolo sees “already more positive signs for Kaepernick’s imminent return to the NFL”.
The second rounder of the 2011 draft has not played a game for a good three years. In between he complained against the league and the clubs because they made arrangements to his disadvantage and therefore would not have signed him up again. At the time, he was paid almost ten million US dollars in a settlement – quasi as lost income.
One thing is clear: Whichever club takes on the case, they are sure to get a lot of attention. It doesn’t matter whether Kaepernick will be the starter in the end or would have to be content with the role of backup.
From @NFLTotalAccess: As @MikeSilver noted, there is interest from NFL teams in Colin Kaepernick. They seem to be doing more homework on him than in recent years, though they haven't yet engaged in direct negotiations with Kaepernick's camp. pic.twitter.com/1luDy1wC6H
