The Tennessee Titans currently hold the first overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. However, the two New York teams in particular are showing interest in an uptrade.
While free agency in the NFL starts in just a few days on March 10, there is still some time before the draft. The annual draft will take place from April 24 to 26, with Green Bay hosting this time.
Currently, the Tennessee Titans are in the comfortable position of being able to pick first. This would allow them to secure the best quarterback in the class, either Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward.
But there are also voices that associate the Titans more with an experienced quarterback in free agency. In this case, they could also trade the first pick away to collect further capital.
There is apparently no shortage of interested parties. As “ESPN” reports, the New York Giants and the New York Jets, in particular, are interested in jumping to first place. The Giants are currently in third place, the Jets in seventh.
Both teams have an acute need at quarterback. The Jets parted ways with Aaron Rodgers in the offseason, while the Giants already released Daniel Jones during the course of last season.
Titans GM expects “great value” in trade
Mike Borgonzi, the Titans’ new general manager for a few weeks, confirmed on the sidelines of the NFL Combine that he had already received several calls regarding the first overall pick. However, he did not name any teams.
However, he made it clear that he expects “great value” if the Titans give up their right to the first pick. The Carolina Panthers’ 2023 uptrade could serve as a guide here.
The Panthers traded with the Chicago Bears at the time, jumping from ninth to first, giving up a first-round pick, an additional first-round pick, two second-round picks, and wide receiver DJ Moore.
Carolina then selected quarterback Bryce Young with the newly acquired first pick.
