When the NFL Draft takes place on Friday night, five Germans are also hoping to have their name called. One duo is given a good chance
Will the next Germans make it to the NFL?
A quintet can hope to make the leap to the best football league in the world at the upcoming draft (April 25-27 in Detroit).
Brandon Coleman (offensive lineman), Julius Welschof (defensive lineman), Fabian Weitz (linebacker), Nouredin Nouili (offensive lineman) and Hugo Klages (defensive tackle) will be there when the 32 teams select the best college talent in the country over three days in a total of seven rounds. More than 250 will make it through the draft, others as undrafted free agents.
German-American Brandon Coleman is considered to have the best chances. He actually wanted to make it to the NBA, but then decided to play football.
Draft expert believes in Coleman
While playing for the TCU Horned Frogs at Texas Christian University, he matured into a top-tier offensive lineman who made a splash at the Combine. He completed the 40-yard dash in 4.9 seconds, setting the fifth-best time at his position.
Draft expert Daniel Jeremiah assumes that Coleman could go off the board between rounds three and five.
Welschof also has a good chance, the 26-year-old is a defensive lineman and played for the Charlotte 49ers after transferring from the Michigan Wolverines.
However, he missed a large part of the season due to injury. “I’m currently finishing my MBA, i.e. my business studies, and preparing for the draft. Of course, I hope that everything works out the way I want it to,” he told the Münchner Merkur newspaper.
