NFL Draft 2023 sets record for number of trades

Trades, trades, trades. The 2023 draft is setting an NFL record. Never before did franchises make more trades during the three days of the draft

The 2023 NFL Draft is history and has provided a new record in league history.

Over the three days of the draft, franchises handled a total of 43 trades. That broke the record of 40 trades set during the 2019 draft. While the Carolina Panthers made the biggest deal in March with two first-round picks, two second-round picks and wide receiver DJ Moore for the Chicago Bears – grabbing the first pick of the draft – it was the Texans who opened the flood of trades this draft weekend.

After selecting quarterback C.J. Stroud at number two, they traded up for the third pick in the draft. In exchange, they sent their other first-round pick (number twelve), as well as the number 33 pick in this year’s draft and a first-round pick and a third-round pick in the 2024 draft to the Arizona Cardinals. At number three, they then selected edge rusher Will Anderson Jr.

A total of six trades were completed in the first round alone, but the team joyfully traded picks and players on the other two days as well. One of the most notable was running back D’Andre Swift, who was sent from the Detroit Lions to the Philadelphia Eagles. In addition, tight end Adam Trautman moved from the New Orleans Saints to the Denver Broncos to face his former head coach Sean Payton.

The final trade of the draft was made by the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns. In exchange for a sixth-round pick next year, the Ravens secured pick No. 229, with which they drafted tackle Andrew Vorhees and made a new NFL record official.
