Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots 33:21
The Buffalo Bills have prevailed in the division duel against the New England Patriots. Quarterback Josh Allen threw for 314 yards and three touchdowns and was the team’s most effective runner with 64 rushing yards. Wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie was also effective with 125 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The otherwise often so outstanding Patriots playmaker Mac Jones had a pitch black day. He completed only 14 of his 32 pass attempts, had only 145 passing yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. German fullback Jakob Johnson was thrown at once and produced a space gain of nine yards with his catch.
Detroit Lions at Atlanta Falcons 16:20
The Detroit Lions came close to their third win of the season when a recovered fumble gave them possession with 2:18 remaining. However, backup quarterback Tim Boyle (187 passing yards) threw an interception just outside the opponent’s end zone.
German-American wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown was the Lions’ most effective pass receiver, gaining a total of 110 yards and a touchdown. He also set a franchise record: St. Brown is the first player in franchise history to record more than 70 receiving yards in four consecutive games as a rookie.
Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan totaled 215 receiving yards and one touchdown pass.
Los Angeles Chargers at Houston Texans 29:41
German kicker Dominik Eberle celebrated a surprising victory with the Houston Texans in his NFL debut. The native of Franconia contributed eleven points. He converted all of his five extra points and two of three field goals, the longest of which was 51 yards. Quarterback Davis Mills also turned in a strong game with 254 passing yards and two touchdown passes. Rex Burkhead also ran for 149 yards and two touchdowns.
Justin Herbert, the Chargers quarterback, threw passes for 336 yards and a touchdown, but he also had two interceptions.
Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals 21:41
Joe Burrow, the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback, was the key player in the win over the Baltimore Ravens with an incredible 525 passing yards and five touchdown passes. Tee Higgins was his favourite starter with 194 receiving yards and two touchdown passes caught. Ja’Marr Chase was also very effective with 125 receiving yards.
Josh Johnson, the Ravens’ backup quarterback, finished with an impressive 304 passing yards, two touchdown passes and only one interception. Tight end Mark Andrews caught passes for 125 yards and a touchdown.
Jacksonville Jaguars at New York Jets 21:26
The Jacksonville Jaguars put themselves in position to potentially grab the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft for the second straight year with their loss. However, a win against the New York Jets was within reach. The Jaguars’ final drive didn’t end until the opponent’s 1-yard line with seconds left in the game.
Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence finished with 280 passing yards but no touchdowns. Jets playmaker Zach Wilson recorded just 102 passing yards but threw a touchdown pass and also got into the end zone once himself when he returned 52 yards in running back style.
New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles 10:34
The Philadelphia Eagles outclassed the New York Giants. Quarterback Jalen Hurts threw for 199 yards and two touchdowns. His most effective weapon was DeVonta Smith with 80 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The backup quarterbacks of the New York Giants were not convincing. Mike Glennon threw for 93 yards, Jake Fromm for only 25 yards. Running back Saquon Barkley was also not a factor with 15 runs for just 32 yards.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers 32-6
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had little trouble with the Carolina Panthers. Tom Brady recorded 232 passing yards and a touchdown pass and remained without a turnover. Wide receiver Antonio Brown, after serving his suspension for his apparently forged Covid certificate, also gained a lot of space with 101 receiving yards. William Gholston excelled on defence with 2.5 sacks and two tackles for loss.
Cam Newton, the Panthers’ quarterback, did not find his game at all, completing only seven of his 13 pass attempts for 61 yards and throwing an interception. Sam Darnold replaced him in the course of the game and threw for 190 yards.
