NFL and NFLPA agree on virtual off-season program

The off-season program is in the starting blocks, and we will start on April 20, three days before the draft. In the Corona Crisis, however, it will be different than usual: virtual.

The NFL world stands still because of the Corona crisis. In the off-season there is still movement. On the one hand through the draft, which this year will be completely virtual for the first time.

But also the voluntary offseason program starts three days before the draft, on April 20th. NFL and NFLPA have agreed on this, as NFL insider Tom Pelissero reports. Again, the whole thing will take place virtually.

All or none
This means: For three weeks, a virtual program will be unwound, ending on May 15. It will be about workouts, lessons, but also technical things like using Skype. In addition, there will be a voluntary minicamp with older players for the new coaches.

Important: Teams and players can only return to the training ground if all 32 teams are allowed to reopen their facilities. If only one team remains closed, all others must remain closed.

The decision will be made as the coronavirus pandemic develops, “in accordance with the NFL and federal, state and local rules and regulations,” it is said. The US has been particularly hard hit by the corona crisis, with the states having the highest number of infected and dead people in the world.

An important point for the teams is that if the facilities cannot be reopened during the off-season program, there is another option: the teams can then conduct a mandatory minicamp for the older players, limited to two hours of classroom time and two hours of training.
