The departure of head coach Jon Gruden has shaken up a lot of things for the Las Vegas Raiders. The players also seem to still have to get used to the new atmosphere on the sidelines. At least for running back Josh Jacobs, the situation feels completely new.
Munich – The racism and sexism scandal surrounding Jon Gruden has caused a lot of discussion throughout the league.
Especially with the Las Vegas Raiders – Gruden’s old team – peace doesn’t really seem to have returned yet. Or maybe it has?
In Las Vegas, the Gruden drama seems to have been absorbed well, at least from a sporting point of view. The Raiders made a strong impression in their 34-24 win over the Denver Broncos and deserved to win.
Running back Josh Jacobs commented on the unfamiliar new atmosphere on the sidelines after the first game without Gruden.
“Man, the sideline was just like, it wasn’t no anxiety. It was weird. It was like everybody was calm, you didn’t have somebody cussing at you, or going crazy at the refs. None of that. Something bad happened and it like, ‘OK, next play.'” – Raiders RB Josh Jacobs

Jacobs: “There was no unrest on the sidelines “
The atmosphere on the sidelines was probably an adjustment for some players. Jacobs said after the game, “It was weird. Everyone was kind of quiet, you didn’t hear anyone swearing or yelling at the refs.”
Jacobs doesn’t explicitly mention Gruden’s name, but it’s clear he’s alluding to his former coach with the comments. “Man, there was just no unrest on the sideline. If something bad happened, it was just ‘OK, next play.'”
The running back always had a laugh on his lips when he said that, yet the calmer atmosphere has obviously been crowned with success – even if it still seems to take some getting used to for some players.
