The long-time linebacker of the Seattle Seahawks signs with the defending champions. Previously, the veteran Super Bowl champion of the 2013 season gives the New England Patriots a pass.
Munich/Los Angeles – Bobby Wagner is staying in the NFC East but switching teams within the division.
“ESPN” reports that the linebacker has signed a contract with the Los Angeles Rams and will earn 50 million US dollars over the next five years.
The total could even rise to 65 million dollars.
Wagner was released on 9 March by the Seattle Seahawks, where he had spent ten seasons. The defender was selected in the 2nd round at No. 47 overall by Seattle in the 2012 NFL Draft.
In February 2014, he celebrated winning the Super Bowl with Seattle. He has been to the Pro Bowl eight times and was selected to the First-team All-Pro six times. Twice he was the NFL’s all-time leader in tackles.
Known for his uncompromising style and physical strength, the 31-year-old played in a total of 151 NFL games, recording 1298 total tackles, 23.5 sacks, 11 interceptions and one touchdown.
Wagner may have also been courted by many other NFL teams. The New England Patriots were also considered a potential new team. Outside linebacker Matthew Judon had publicly advocated the signing of the superstar.
