McCarthy meets Dak Prescott: “Likes his personality a lot”

New coach Mike McCarthy and quarterback Dak Prescott are also building their personal relationship at the Dallas Cowboys’ Training Camp. The start was obviously good, as the coach reveals.

A new coach always brings a new constellation, a new tone, a different mood. Yes, question marks as well.

In the Dallas Cowboys’ case, the negotiations with quarterback Dak Prescott on extending his contract have failed spectacularly.

The playmaker signed the Franchise Day and smiled away professionally at the failed talks, the missed pay rise including a long-term working paper.

Ratio essential
Many observers were therefore eagerly awaiting the meeting between Mike McCarthy and Prescott, after all, the relationship between a coach and a quarterback is essential, the mix must be right. Both of them are therefore also working on building their relationship with each other in the camp.

It’s the first time they’ve met since the coach is at the helm. Prescott had skipped the virtual meetings in the off-season because of the open negotiations.

The first personal impression was obviously right, as you can see from McCarthy’s comments.

“I really like his personality,” he said. “He’s very positive, very motivated. I’d say he’s picking up where he left off, based on what I was told about him. He’s very detailed in his preparation. It’s a lot of fun to be with him,” said McCarthy.

2019 best season
Prescott delivered his best NFL season in 2019 with 4902 passing yards and 30 touchdowns, but will have to get used to a new offense at least in part.

Prescott still has a lot of work to do, as McCarthy will not completely change the offense used under predecessor Jason Garrett, but he will not leave it as it was. “The biggest adjustment for Dak is the Playbook, which was an adjustment for all of us. But he looked very good in the throwing segments of the phase we’re in,” McCarthy said.
