Los Angeles: Man drowns in lake in front of SoFi Stadium

A man died in the artificial lake in front of the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. According to reports, he drowned.

A deadly drama unfolded outside SoFi Stadium, home of NFL franchises the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, on Friday night, according to media reports.

A man, 19 years old according to the Inglewood Police Department, dived into the lake in front of SoFi Stadium at around 9:30 p.m. on the sidelines of a music concert and never resurfaced.

According to the police press release, a team of rescue divers was therefore requested and the search for the missing man began immediately and was supported by the use of helicopters and drones.

The divers finally found the man in the lake at around 11 p.m., but immediate resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has not yet been released by the police.

“It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of a person yesterday evening. Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of the victim for their loss. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time,” said a statement from SoFi Stadium officials.

This is the second time that a person has died after entering the lake. Back in 2022, there was a death in the lake in front of the stadium, which only opened in 2020.

At that time, a 45-year-old man died after jumping over a fence at the edge of the stadium parking lot to enter the lake, which covers an area of six hectares. After hours of searching by divers, he too could only be recovered dead
