Legendary coach Sean Payton talks about return and gives time frame

It’s been less than a year since his retirement from the New Orleans Saints, and Sean Payton is already announcing a comeback. He doesn’t name a specific team, but he does name a time frame.

Munich – Nine months after stepping down as head coach with the New Orleans Saints, Sean Payton is talking about a possible return to the NFL.

“If the right situation presented itself, I would definitely be interested,” Payton said on the “NewOrleans.Football Podcast.” “That could be in a year or two years. “

Payton led Saints to Super Bowl triumph

Payton coached the Saints for 16 years, leading them to Super Bowl triumph in the 2009 season with quarterback Drew Brees.

The coaching legend, who currently works as a pundit on “Fox Sports,” did not name specific teams but stressed that the philosophy of the owners and front office would have to fit him.

“The ability to win consistently and the willingness to build the right culture” are the things that matter most to him when choosing a new team, the 58-year-old explained.

Payton’s contract runs until 2024

With his contract with the Saints officially running through 2024, a team that signs him before then would have to transfer a transfer fee to New Orleans.

Payton was the NFL’s Coach of the Year in 2006, winning 160 of 256 games overall.

However, in 2012 he became the first head coach in the NFL to be suspended by the league for a full season because of the “bounty scandal”.

He had suspended bonuses for players who intentionally injured opposing players.
