Former NFL receiver Henry Ruggs will plead guilty to two charges following his fatal car accident caused in November 2021. The 24-year-old faces up to ten years in prison.
Former NFL receiver Henry Ruggs has waived his right to a preliminary hearing in the trial for his November 2021 caused fatal car accident and will plead guilty to two charges. The agreement was officially announced Tuesday.
According to the agreement, the 24-year-old will plead guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of drunken driving. The ex-pro of the Las Vegas Raiders now faces a prison sentence of between three and ten years, which he will serve in the Nevada State Penitentiary. He will appear in court again on May 10 to formally plead guilty.
In exchange for his plea, two charges against Ruggs will be dropped. Those are a separate charge of drunken driving at the expense of his injured girlfriend, who was also in the car as a passenger, and reckless driving. If convicted without a plea agreement, Ruggs could have faced up to 50 years in prison.
Accident at 250 mph – woman and dog burned to death
Ruggs had caused a serious traffic accident in Las Vegas in the early morning hours of November 2, 2021, in which the driver of another car and her dog were burned to death. Ruggs was traveling at a speed of 250 mph and was intoxicated, according to the report. His blood alcohol level was 1.6 per mille, more than twice the limit allowed in Nevada.
Ruggs was temporarily arrested but released on bail a day later. He has been under house arrest ever since. The Raiders, who drafted the receiver twelfth overall in the 2020 draft, released him immediately after the incident.
