Justin Fields is about to enter his second season in the NFL. His former teammate Jason Peters believes the young quarterback will fulfil his potential in the future as the Chicago Bears’ O-line improves.
Munich – Justin Fields’ rookie season was mixed. The 23-year-old played in twelve games and was rarely convincing in an admittedly mixed Chicago Bears team. At the end of the season, the young quarterback had seven touchdowns and ten interceptions on his stat sheet.
The coming year should be better, of course. One person who believes this is a former teammate of Field. Jason Peters explained in an interview with “SiriusXM NFL Radio”: “He’s going to need his offensive line to block for him and give him time – because he’s still young – to go through his reads. Until he gets older and gets acclimated, because right now he’s a rookie in a new system with a new coaching staff, I’m pretty sure they’ll have a whole new system for him, new plays.”
“As long as the offensive line gives him some time, he’ll do well this year. Once he gets a handle on the offensive line, he’s going to be special because he can throw, he can run, he can make all the plays he needs to make,” Peters continued.
For the record, Justin Fields was sacked nine times in his first NFL start against the Cleveland Browns. So a good O-line is the key to getting better playing time. Peters won’t be able to help him with that, though. The Bears did not extend the 40-year-old’s contract.
