Six games, six losses. Jared Goff is still waiting for his first success with the Detroit Lions. Head coach Dan Campbell is calling for an increase in pressure from his quarterback.
Munich/Detroit – The Detroit Lions are a weak team. After six days of play, Head Coach Dan Campbell’s team is the only winless team in the NFL. In the 11:34 against the Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit had no chance in every respect.
Coach Campbell took responsibility for his team’s poor performance, but fully included his quarterback Jared Goff in the criticism. “It’s time for him to step up. More than he has so far,” the coach said when asked about his passer’s performance.
Goff completed 28 of 42 passes for 202 yards, went without a touchdown pass and threw an interception. His passer rating of 67.8 is his second-lowest this season.
Goff traded to Detroit in exchange for Stafford
The 2016 No. 1 pick was dealt to the Lions in the offseason in a trade for Matthew Stafford from the Los Angeles Rams. Detroit got a third-round pick in 2021, a first-round pick in 2022 and a first-round pick in 2023 for that on top of that.
Despite the heavy investment, the Rams seem to have made a good decision with this trade. Stafford is one of the reasons for their successful start to the season with five wins and only one loss.
Goff, on the other hand, has failed to live up to expectations so far with 1,505 passing yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions.
And the tasks don’t get any easier: On matchday 7, Goff will have a reunion with his former team, the Lions travel to the Rams.
