Instead of NFL: Colin Kaepernick goes under the children’s book authors

It has become very quiet about Colin Kaepernick and a possible NFL comeback. Now the ex-quarterback is back with a new activity: The 33-year-old is becoming a children’s book author

Colin Kaepernick is still not returning to the NFL. Instead, the former quarterback is going among writers. More precisely, among children’s book authors.

Kaepernick will publish a picture book based on childhood memories in 2022. The illustrations are by Eric Wilkerson. “I Color Myself Different” will be published on 5 April 2022 and will be distributed through his own publishing company “Kaepernick Publishing” in collaboration with US publisher “Scholastic”. The deal includes several books.

Founded own publishing house

Kaepernick has founded his own publishing house in 2019, with the first book to be published there in the autumn. “Abolition for the People: The Movement for a Future Without Policing & Prisons” is a collection of essays on the problems of police and prison reform.

His children’s book and the story behind it “is very personal to me and was inspired by real events in my life,” he revealed. “I hope it honors the courage and bravery of young people everywhere by encouraging them to live with authenticity and purpose,” said Kaepernick, who hopes “our books will inspire readers to walk through the world with confidence, strength and truth in everything they do.”

Former 49ers quarterback Kaepernick had drawn attention to racism and police violence in the US during the 2016 season with his anthem protest.

He was released in the following Free Agency and hasn’t found a job in the NFL since.

No more comebacks

Even a big-staged workout in November 2019 didn’t land him a contract with an NFL team.

Even lip service after the death of George Floyd to re-signing the ex-athlete to a team did not materialise. Given the fact that Kaepernick is 33 years old, a comeback in the NFL is unlikely to happen.
