Wrong Age? Sauce Gardner is listed online as being 25 years old. He, however, denies this and reveals his true age.

In a conversation with reporters about his leadership role as a veteran defender, Gardner pointed out that he is still quite young. “By the way, I’m 24,” said the cornerback. Yet the American is listed as 25 in many places online.

“It’s crazy that I have to say this again”

Over time, a false assumption has become accepted as fact. Numerous online sources—including ESPN.com, Pro Football Focus, Yahoo Sports, and the German Wikipedia entry—state that Gardner was born on August 31, 2000.

Only the Colts’ website and NFL.com have the correct information. They list Gardner’s actual date of birth, which is August 31, 2001. That makes him only 24 years old.

“It’s crazy that I have to say this again,” Gardner said last week during the Colts’ final offseason practice.

But how did the incorrect information come about? After all, Gardner had always listed his birth year as 2001: “In all my records and everything I’ve signed, it says ‘01.’ So I don’t know where or how this got mixed up, unless people are just getting their information straight from Google,” Gardner told ‘The Athletic.’
