Almost exactly one year ago, Dwayne Haskins tragically died in a traffic accident, leaving the NFL and college football community in mourning. Now there are new developments in the investigation surrounding his death.

It was almost exactly a year ago when the death of Dwayne Haskins rocked the NFL as well as college football. The former Ohio State University quarterback had died in a traffic accident.

Now his lawyer Rick Ellsley has announced in a press release that he will file a lawsuit. The reason he cites is previously “unseen evidence” surrounding the accidental death.

“What happened just hours before Haskins’ death continues to raise many questions,” Ellsley writes. “It is suspected that Dwayne was deliberately drugged as part of an extortion and robbery conspiracy. In fact, his very expensive watch was stolen from him shortly before his death. “

Dwayne Haskins: accidental death raised questions

At the time, the former quarterback’s sudden death immediately raised questions that could never really be answered.

The coroner’s report said Haskins had been drinking heavily and had a “significant amount of alcohol in his blood” before he was struck and killed by a truck on a South Florida highway.

The coroner determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma and classified the death as accidental. Also mentioned was that Haskins was trying to flag down moving cars on the motorway to get a ride.

The police report stated that Haskins was walking to get gas for his own car when he was fatally injured.

Dwayne Haskins’ football career

In his career that ended far too soon, Haskins was under contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers at the time of his death.

Prior to that, he spent his early years with the Washington Commanders, who selected him 15th overall in the 2019 draft. Unfortunately, Haskins never caught on there.

He played a total of 16 games for the franchise, throwing for 2,804 yards and 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
