Munich – In June 2021, Carl Nassib dared to go public and declared that he is gay. Now, in an interview with Michael Strahan on “Good Morning America”, the 29-year-old explained that he thought long and hard about coming out.
According to his own statement, he stared at his mobile phone and the prepared text for an hour. Finally, he posted his outing. “For the children”, as Nassib says today.
According to him, he wanted to help others with his outing: “I just wanted to show that it really doesn’t matter what sexual orientation you have.” However, Nassib also admitted that he had difficult times behind him.
Following dismissal from Raiders: Nassib awaits opportunity
The defensive end also said that the company has moved on in that regard. “We are taking steps in a positive direction. It’s not going to be a perfect path and we just have to stay the course and make sure we do it from a position of love and not from a position of hostility. I hope that I can be a positive push in that direction. “
Nassib was drafted in the third round by the Cleveland Browns in 2016 and is the NFL’s first openly gay player. Last season he played in 13 games for the Las Vegas Raiders. In that time, Nassib recorded 21 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble. The Raiders released him in March and he has been a free agent ever since, waiting for a new opportunity.
