After criticism from the league: NFL changes Corona regulations for workouts

After some voices from the league critically opposed the envisaged Corona concept, the NFL is now reacting with adjustments.

In particular, it was John Harbaugh, the Baltimore Ravens’ head coach, who recently voiced strong criticism of the NFL’s hygiene concept.

For him these plans were “impossible to implement”. Now the NFL is reacting and making some changes to the rules. These will be presented in the coming weeks.

Regulations are also adjusted during the season
NFL Medical Director Dr. Allen Sill told the NFL Network, “I have told the teams that have filed complaints that the difficult circumstances require adjustments,” he said.

However, he was also aware that something could be changed in the regulations. In addition, much would still be in the development phase, so that it cannot yet provide any precise information.

One of the adjustments would, for example, provide for team officials or reporters to be tested before each matchday before they are allowed to contact the team.

Special Training Camps
According to Sill, the training camps are also likely to be adjusted again: “Everyone must realise that we will need more time with regard to the camps,” he said. “If we do the medical tests with care, we can gradually return to the field faster.

Harbaugh had particularly complained that the medical regulations would hardly allow regulated training. Now the NFL is suggesting that by preparing carefully and following the rules, the teams can probably prevent more of the precautions.

In addition, the NFL rules out the possibility that, as in the NBA, entire teams will go into isolation in the pre-season preparation. The NFL wouldn’t see any advantage in shielding the entire team here.

If a test turns out to be positive, this person would first be isolated individually. For possible transmissions on the field, work will continue on modified face masks for the players.
