Tom Brady wants to become a minority owner with the Las Vegas Raiders. Now he talks about the task – and his long-term NFL plans.
Tom Brady has big plans for his new role in the NFL. And in some ways, he doesn’t. Because as a minority owner, he will not interfere much in the day-to-day business of the Las Vegas Raiders. He has now confirmed this officially.
“I will play a very passive role,” Brady told the AP. Of course, that’s subject to the approval of at least 24 of the 32 teams he needs to join the franchise.
But that role is expected to be a long-term one, the former quarterback also stressed.
For the rest of his life
“This is something I want to do for the rest of my life,” Brady said. “It’s not something I want to do for just a year or two.”
As he lets slip, the NFL job is also a priority compared to his job as a pundit for US TV network Fox. The deal runs for ten years and reportedly pays Brady US$375 million.
“I have a big responsibility with my Fox job, which I take very seriously. But when I look at my whole life, the opportunity to be involved in the NFL is a dream come true. And if I can help the NFL and continue to make a positive contribution, that’s a very enjoyable part of my life,” Brady said.
Why the Raiders in particular?
It’s no secret that Brady was a big fan of the San Francisco 49ers as a Bay Area kid. “The team on the other side of the Bay was the Raiders. It’s an iconic team in the NFL,” Brady said.
For Tom Brady, it’s a dream come true
He also said he had heard “incredible stories” about former Raiders owner Al Davis, who died in 2011. “When I look at a lot of people who have positively impacted the NFL over a long period of time, Al Davis is one of them,” Brady said. “And then when the opportunity came up to become a minority owner of the Raiders, it was a dream come true for me. “
