Seattle Seahawks: Trade for Baker Mayfield likely “at right price”

The Cleveland Browns continue to search for a taker for quarterback Baker Mayfield after the trade for Deshaun Watson. Not many interested parties remain. Are the Seattle Seahawks the last hope for Mayfield and the Browns?

Munich/Cleveland – Quarterback Baker Mayfield is still looking for a new home after the Cleveland Browns got their desired player in Deshaun Watson via trade.

After the quarterback madness of the offseason, and with fewer and fewer remaining alternatives for Mayfield, it won’t be easy for Cleveland to find a taker.

The Indianapolis Colts were considered Mayfield’s team of choice, but are no longer interested in the 26-year-old after the trade for Matt Ryan. In addition, the New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons no longer seem to be interested in Mayfield’s services, as Mary Kay Cabot of “Cleveland.com” reports.

According to the report, however, a franchise is emerging as a reasonable buyer. For example, the Seattle Seahawks would be interested in acquiring Mayfield “at the right price. “

Browns likely lower demand for Mayfield trade

With developments in the quarterback market over the past few days and weeks, the Browns have now reportedly backed off their original demand for a first-round pick in the trade for Mayfield. Cleveland also was not inundated with calls for the quarterback, according to the report, which is said to have led to the concession.

This, he said, made him interesting to the Seahawks and their realignment following the departure of franchise star Russell Wilson. This is despite the fact that the team is said to be quite fond of quarterback Drew Lock, who was acquired in the Wilson trade, reports continue.

According to “Cleveland.com,” the Seahawks have already inquired about Mayfield with the Browns and are now sounding out the asking value.

Cleveland Browns: Will Mayfield even be released?

But the Seahawks and other teams may be eyeing the Browns to even fire Mayfield if necessary.

As a guest on the Orange and Brown Talk podcast a few days ago, Kay Cabot stressed that the Pittsburgh Steelers, for example, are also interested in the 2018 first-overall pick despite signing Mitch Trubisky should he become a free agent.

Mayfield’s fully guaranteed salary of $18.86 million in the 2022 season makes it all the more difficult to trade the player. The resulting dead cap in the event of a release in the final year of his rookie deal would be on par with his salary, according to “Spotrac”, and accordingly does not make negotiations any easier for the Browns.

For the Browns, however, it would be out of the question to accommodate Mayfield even a little bit and to take over part of the outstanding salary in a trade, as the Panthers did with Teddy Bridgewater last season. The Panthers took over seven of the ten million dollars of Bridgewater’s salary in his trade to the Denver Broncos.

“Cleveland.com also has the Detroit Lions as another serious suitor for Mayfield. Former Browns general manager John Dorsey is under contract there as a senior personnel executive, who selected Mayfield as the No. 1 pick in 2018 and is said to still have a high opinion of the playmaker.
