Mitch Trubisky got his act together very quickly this past Free Agency and signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Maybe too quick?
Mitch Trubisky’s second chance lasted three and a half games. Then the veteran found himself on the Pittsburgh Steelers bench.
Head coach Mike Tomlin threw rookie Kenny Pickett into the cold NFL water after another disappointing half against the New York Jets. Not an easy situation for Trubisky.
“It happened fast,” Trubisky told “ESPN.” “It was pretty much out of my hands. I couldn’t even ask why or what happened. He made the decision and we followed it. “
Mitch Trubisky: Hoping for more time
He had thought he would get a little more time after signing in free agency to start the post-Roethlisberger era. Because he also knows that if a coach goes to the drafted rookie this early, a lot has to happen for the rookie to be cut again as a starter.
That only happened twice: when Pickett had to sit out because of a concussion. He’s since settled down.
And Trubisky is considering whether it might have been a bit premature to sign a two-year contract on March 17, 2022, even if it’s worth $14.285 million.
“It all happened pretty quickly,” Trubisky said. “I didn’t really have much time to think about the decision. I wish I would have taken a little more time and not signed on the first day of Free Agency. In hindsight, I should have just done more research.”
The Steelers played their cards close to the chest, telling him they might draft a quarterback.
Mitch Trubisky: “Nothing is guaranteed “
“I felt like it was a good opportunity to get back on the field,” Trubisky said. “However, nothing is guaranteed. “
