New England Patriots revise contract of Rex Burkhead

The New England Patriots get some air at Cap Space and restructure the contract of running back Rex Burkhead. A deal that makes sense to both sides.

As “ESPN” reports, the New England Patriots revise the working paper of Running Back Rex Burkhead one year before the end of the contract.

The 30-year-old will earn only 1.05 million US dollars basic salary instead of 2.5 million US dollars. If he makes it into the final 53-man squad, an additional bonus of 400,000 US dollars will be due instead of the originally agreed 500,000 US dollars. The Patriots thus save 981,000 US dollars in the coming season at Cap Space.

Fair deal for team and players
For both sides the business makes perfect sense. Burkhead may have less income, but can now consider it secure. If he had been fired, he would have had to forgo a large part of his salary.

The patriots primarily save the money, but also avoid the “hardship” of having to part with a top performer of recent years.

Burkhead ran for 302 yards in 65 attempts in the 2019 season, scoring three touchdowns in the process. In addition, he caught another 279 receiving yards.
