Patrick Mahomes has become an institution with the Kansas City Chiefs. It’s been impossible to imagine the Arrowhead without him for six years. But he almost didn’t end up there at all. At least that’s what his father of the same name claims.
Patrick Mahomes has made the Super Bowl as a starter for the third time in his career in five years. He could get his second Super Bowl ring with a win in Glendale against the Philadelphia Eagles.
That would give Mahomes twice as many Super Bowl wins as the Kansas City Chiefs had in their entire franchise history combined. Mahomes is a hero in Kansas City and almost all of Missouri.
But by a hair’s breadth, this marriage would never have happened. That’s the word from his father, Patrick Mahomes Sr.
Mahomes to the Bears? “Pat had been looking forward to it “
On the “Parkins & Spiegel Show,” Mahomes Senior said that the Chicago Bears had already inquired about his son in advance in the 2017 draft, in addition to announcing they were eager to select him.
However, when the Bears traded up to the second spot in the 2017 NFL Draft to get quarterback Mitch Trubisky, disappointment was first in the Mahomes house. “When they got Mitch, he was really disappointed. Pat had been looking forward to playing for this traditional team in Chicago,” Mahomes senior said.
