NFL: Vikings receiver Addison faces jail time

In mid-July, wide receiver Jordan Addison of the Minnesota Vikings made negative headlines after driving under the influence of alcohol. Now he has been charged and is facing severe penalties.

On July 12, police officers found Jordan Addison asleep behind the wheel of his Rolls-Royce, in which he was blocking the highway. His alcohol level was well above the legal limit in California and he was arrested.

Now the Vikings star is accused of a case of “DUI”, i.e. drug abuse at the wheel. The wide receiver will now have to answer for these missteps in a Los Angeles court on October 7.

If Addison is convicted or pleads guilty, he faces up to six months in prison, fines of up to USD 2,000 or the loss of his driver’s license for up to six months.

What punishment does the NFL impose?

But Addison could also face sporting consequences. According to the NFL’s alcohol abuse policy, players face a three-game suspension for their first offense.

At the start of Vikings training camp, the receiver had not wanted to talk about the incident, but he assured that he would take all measures to make better decisions in the future.

Coach Kevin O’Connell was disappointed in his protégé. “You wrap your arms around these guys and make sure they know we care about them,” the Vikings coach said. “But at the same time, they have to understand things that are definitely not acceptable. “
